God of Our Fathers
Lyrics: Daniel C. Roberts; Tune: “National Hymn,” George W. Warren
God of our fathers, whose almighty hand
leads forth in beauty all the starry band
of shining worlds in splendor through the skies,
our grateful songs before thy throne arise.
Your love divine has led us in the past;
in this free land by you our lot is cast;
Oh, be our ruler, guardian, guide, and stay,
your Word our law, your paths our chosen way.
From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,
Make your strong arm our ever sure defense;
your true religion in our hearts increase;
your bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.
Refresh your people on their toilsome way;
lead us from night to never-ending day;
fill all our lives with heav’n-born love and grace,
until at last we meet before your face.
Apostolic Greeting
Kyrie
Prayer of the Day
Isaiah 45:1-7
Psalm 96:1-13 (responses are the even numbered verses)
1Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the whole earth.
2Sing to the Lord and bless his Name;
proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day.
3Declare his glory among the nations
and his wonders among all peoples.
4For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;
he is more to be feared than all gods.
5As for all the gods of the nations, they are but idols;
but it is the Lord who made the heavens.
6Oh, the majesty and magnificence of his presence!
Oh, the power and the splendor of his sanctuary!
7Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples;
ascribe to the Lord honor and power.
8Ascribe to the Lord the honor due his name;
bring offerings and come into his courts.
9Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;
let the whole earth tremble before him.
10Tell it out among the nations: “The Lord is King!
he has made the world so firm that it cannot be moved;
he will judge the peoples with equity.”
11Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea thunder and all that is in it;
let the field be joyful and all that is therein.
12Then shall all the trees of the wood shout for joy before the Lord when he comes,
when he comes to judge the earth.
13He will judge the world with righteousness
and the peoples with his truth.
1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
Matthew 22:15-22
Sermon
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
Offering
Create In Me
Create in me a clean heart, oh God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with your free Spirit.
Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen
